The Soviet Union in WWII had many female soldiers in combat units. These
were mostly medics, but there were many snipers, there were all-female
fighter units. The Osprey MAA about the Russian army has a photo of a
married couple who drove in the same tank. She was the tank commander -
emancipation in action ;-)

Moving underground is always safer, but that requires time, effort and
material. Solid sheets are likely to be uncomfortable due to poor
ventilation. Unless you assume some kind of stealth force fields, for
quickly set-up camo I think some kind of netting will still be the
choice.
There will be progress in the material (full-spectrum camouflage,
chameleon
properties, bullet-proofing as a first layer of defence etc.) and
ease-of
use (inflatable support bars, light materials, stiffening material with
"memory"). Camo netting may be built into vehicles, to be erected at the
press of a button.
