I heard a program (Talk of the Nation, Science Friday?) that was
discussing
the finding that the universe is not slowing down as it expands; it is
actually gaining velocity. IIRC, this was evidenced by comparing the
amount
of red-shift between objects over a set of standard intervals. The
amount of
shift was increasing with each measurement.
One theory proposed was that vaccum actually produced a repulsive force
(much weaker than gravity). Kind of strange thinking of something
comming
from nothing (but string theory is strange anyway)!
