Part of the problem is in force selection.  A capable
force of armor, infantry, and artillery with
appropriate supports (air, engineer, counter-battery,
etc) can clean house.  That's called wargaming.

But if your force is dominantly one troop type
(infantry with AT missles, tanks, whatever) you're not
wargaming.  You're playing paper, rock, scissors.  The
points systems will be useless because you specialized
and your opponent did not conveniently bring what you
specialized to kill.
