Damn, someone's been reading my mind! I've been kicking around fluff for
the RCMP in 2185 for ages now...

My take had the RCMP being senior law enforcment agency in North
American
after the unification of the AC; the 2nd US Civil War has
wrecked/discredited most of the former American agencies, so the RCMP
slides into the gap in the former US territories, then does much the
same
thing after the War of the Americas for Central/South America -
re-establishing the function and credibility of civilian law enforcement
after the troops have moved on.

The (greatly expanded) RCMP is briefly renamed the Royal Mounted Police
(just RMP) before re-gaining the traditional 'C' as Colonial - acting as
senior 'federal' law enforcement agency all over the NAC's Outworlds,
and
in the rural areas of the inner worlds. 

I've not done anything further, because as straight gaming material the
RCMP aren't that great - the handful of Mountie corvette-sized cutters
aren't combat vessels, DS2 and even SG2 don't have much room for
police...
but with FMA coming sometime, some RCMP fluff might be interesting. I'll
bash thru my notes and see what I can post here and to my website.

The red serge lives on - in space! (Although the famous red tunics are
strictly ceremonial wear, and have been since very early in the 20th
Century...)
