Alternate history

Someone posted ages ago about having a history where the US was
not taken over by the UK, I've searched through the archives
but obviously don't have the correct search terms.  Is there a
URL with more information?  I'm starting to do PBeM with a 
friend in DC and he isn't happy about that part of the history
and would like to direct him to that information.
