Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that passively listening for others' pings,
you
don't know what power they broadcasted at or their precise time of
emission,
so you can't always guess range accurately.

And once you get into reflections, multi-path, inaccuracies of bearing
reading in your passive array, etc., you may be only looking for an
indication of where to point the guns, not a firing solution.
