Not sure about play balance not being affected. Using the normal fire
arcs,
at long range you cover a much bigger area with a one-arc weapon than at
close range. So you are likely to have more targets and a target cannot
escape as easily from the fire zone.

Randy,
Thanks for the more detailed description of the game. It sounds like it
could be used to generate some Dirtside scenarios as well as StarGrunt,
and
maybe FT games could be used to influence the Space Superiority
mechanism as
well! I haven't seen one of these games for sale in ages, but now I'll
be
haunting the convention flea markets and ebay till I find a copy.

Charles, I found that it would display if you set Java/Javascript
enabled;
prolly just one, but I didn't experiment as to which, because of recent
bugs in both IE and Netscape with security and scripts.

Not entirely true. Statistically, you're spot on. However, I find
that ship speed and the nature of most battles (which tend to close
very rapidly through the outer range bands) tends to limit the
usefulness of that larger area. Also, for those who don't measure,
range estimation gets much more shaky past 24 inches.

No, I'm here.... just a bit busy with the Xmas rush! Also my email has
occasionally been a bit flaky the last few weeks, it's working OK at the
moment but if there's anything specific that I haven't replied to, it
could
be either because I've not got round to it or because I never got it!
Due to the amount of work on right now I also haven't been reading ALL
the
general postings to the list, so if anything specifically needs my
attention or response it's best to either send me a copy direct, or else
to
flag it somehow in the subject line.
