Start with counters, eg. those on p.47. Doesn't look quite as nice as
models of course, but it gets you gaming *much* faster and cheaper!

Welcome to the madness!
I have seen the FT ship miniatures listed as 1/2000th to 1/3000th scale.
I agree with Oerjan, start with the counters. MUCH cheaper.
There are some nice counters that you can print on the Full Thrust
Computer
Core http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Station/3565/index.html
Or you could do what I did, buy the scouts to DDs and assign them
larger scales (CTs for Escorts, FFs for Cruisers, DDs for Capitals).
Since
most DD and smaller ship in the GZG line come 3 to a blister, you can
build a fairly large fleet quickly. Then as time, intrest and monetary
units
become availble, start on the larger ships.
And by the way, feel free to visit my web site. I have 210 FT2 style
designs
posted by various people. http://www.ftsr.org/ft/ft2/registry.html
