Maybe so but I've seen plenty of occasions at JRTC or NTC where the BC
chose
to go with 4-platoon  Company Task forces (like 2 arm 2 mech etc) and
then
keep the remant of the third company as a reserve. Especially if the
battlaion
has an attached inf or tank company as is usually the case. So you might
get a
mech infnatry bn with a tank company attached and the mech guys don't
have to
give up one of their companies.
