You might also want to take a look at some non-fiction:
  Objects in Motion: Orbital Mechanics for Writers
  The Hot Equations: Thermodynamics and Military SF
  Condition Zulu: Weapons and Defenses in Space Combat

All by Ken Burnside. They're short books that describe the
physics of potential space combat.
