Subject: [GZG] Stargate Conversion: Wraith
I've been thinking about how to represent the weaponry and defenses of
Wraith Cruisers and Hives.
http://stargate.wikia.com/wiki/Hive_Ship
The Hive ship is *brutal* in terms of raw threat level. It contains a
large cargo volume, lots of troops, piles of Dart squadrons, and lots
of energy weapons. It also is somewhat (rate unknown) regenerative,
but doesn't seem to repair damage terribly fast, so this might be more
of a campaign thing or some sort of 'ship-inherent' DCP thing than
anything terribly substantial. They have a heavy organic hull, but it
has been stated they get ripped apart by asgard beams (grazer rerolls
should do it) while being fairly immune to the standard (small) human
railguns. They seem to have shield capabilities and they carry 3
Wraith Cruisers. Size-wise, they are 13 times as large as an X-304
Daedelus.
Now, I doubt I can get all of that into FT terms easily, but I want to
get parts of it.
It occurs to me that to make a railgun resistant hull, building the
ship with Phalon Shell Armour (2 layers) would probably do it. It'll
stop the human K-1s pretty effectively.
The Wraith energy weapons might just be good old beams. They seem to
be partly stopped by human screens. They'd be a mix of classes with
emphasis on the broadside arcs. Close in broadsides between hives can
be mutually destructive.
They have a 'transport jammer' that would block asgard beaming (but
might get knocked out as a core system).
Since they are fragile once their hull armour is ripped up, they might
have weak(ish) hulls. Mind you, being big, even a weak hull will make
for a lot of boxes.
If I grant them extra DCPs as a function of mass (maybe = 1/4 or 1/5
of crew units) that could cover the ship's self repair capabilities.
In campaign play, they might be allowed more free between-game repairs
as the ship has time to regrow to repair damage.
They are, it seems, susceptible to viral attack, but that requires a
team aboard to emplace and destroys them slowly over quite a few
hours. That pretty much rules out any of this showing up unless one
writes it into a scenario.
The Darts could lay boarding parties on enemy ship whose shields are
down. I have to envision some method to resolve boarding combat (maybe
MT has some rules for that if I look or I can find some somebody here
has done).
A ZPM powered Hive would have perhaps 3 (or if fully functional 4)
layers of Shell Armour as well as upgraded weapons. This would be a
*true* dreadplanet type ship. To be justly feared.
Thoughts?
