Blood samples were taken on at least one occasion, and on that one you'd

lose the bet. Not sure about the others, but I'd be surprised if the 
perpetrators had been very drunk on those occasions either. They just 
hadn't looked closely enough at the weapon to notice the cartoon in
question...

...but they *had* taken pains to cut the (very flimsy) plastic muzzle
cover 
away since they didn't want the grenade to explode when it hit said
cover...

Like I said, nature came up with even worse idiots :-/
