My take:

Attack Cruiser: A fire support/minor Line of Battle vessel
Strike Cruiser: a ship designed for independent operations, a
"generalist"
ship
Escort Cruiser: A ship designed to protect other ships (PDS heavy)

I only know the various ship type names as size classes. Where would I
find

out what the point of "Attack cruiser" vs "strike cruiser" vs "escort
cruiser" is? That's just an example--what about roles for various ship
classes and variants?

thanks
