suddenly...!
I like both styles of starship, depending on the game setting I'm
envisaging. Though currently I'm on the lookout for some ships for a
vaguely-Trek-but-much-grittier RPG project.
I really loved the new NAC corvette. Lovely model. As soon as I saw
it, I thought this was the range that would tempt me back from being
primarily a SG2/DS2 groundpounder to getting back into space.
The CL is nice too, but I would have preferred cleaner lines and less
clutter on the "saucer"/command pod. The new heavy cruiser is a bit of
a disappointment as far as I'm concerned because it continues the
cluttered look.
I still like the basic shape of the new NAC ships, but my vote would be
for further models to have a smoother and cleaner look for the command
portion, more in keeping with the earlier NAC vessels only with much
shorter necks, and perhaps a bit slimmer and sleek. Also perhaps for
variant models of the CL and CA to be produced with alternative and
clean command pods, so that the current releases become specialist
variants of the class..?
One of the other features I prefer about the corvette is that the
"engines" (presumably? I haven't seen the model, only the photograph)
sweep past the tail. The cruisers both have an elongated tail, so the
effect is "tube with wings". I suppose I have a hankering for something
which is not quite as clean and goody-goody as the Star Trek Feds, but
which captures some of the basic design features of them, i.e. command
unit, secondary hull, twin engine units.
Cloaking device re-engaging....
