Subject: [FT] NI fleet design questions
Now I'm getting down to some individual questions.
The Yerushalayim heavy Cruiser, as it is now, has a "primary"
configuration and three alternate refits. The primary has an FH mounted
P-torp as the heavy weapon, and the refits replace that (and a few
other weapons with a B3, or a LRPT (F) or a Graser 2 (F). I have two
questions
1) As is, the 3-row CH has 25 Hull+ 5 armor, which makes it stronger
hulled than the FSE Jerez and UNSC River, but weaker than the NAC
Vandenburg, The ESU Voroshilev, and the NSL Markgraf are also stronger,
but they traded Main Drive for it. I could knock out a B2 on the
Yerushalayim for +1 Hull and +1Armor. Or should I leave it as is - on
the weaker side
As is, assuming average damage (i.e. no huge armor skipping rerolls):
Ship Thresh1 Thresh2
NAC-Van 11 17 (screen)
NSL-Mark 12-17 23 (has so much
armor it is likely to last past
thresh1
FSE-Jer 7 14
ESU-Vor 11 17 (screen)
UN-River 9 18
NI-Yer 14 22
This seems to argue for keeping it as-is. (I know that thresh 3 and
kill-damage (which are one and the same for 3-row hulls) are
complicating factors, but most ships' effective battle-life does not
often extend past thresh 3 at this size an smaller).
2) Given that Torps (and LRPT's) are probably the "main" heavy weapon
of NI, should the "primary" configuration of the Yerushalayim (and
heavier) be the LRPT version? The reason I'm semi-inclined toward this
is guidance by the mini itself. FT1508 and larger almost all have a
large underslung F facing "barrel" suggesting a nice heavy weapon. I
know we're not supposed to get too tied up in the minis themselves when
designing stats, but it's pretty prominent in the NI ships. Think of
the question this way - since only one version would likely go in a
Fleet Book, and the other(s) described in the flavor text, is it better
"color" for NI to have:
4 Class 2 Beam Batteries (F/FP/AP, F/FS/AS, 2x all arcs)
1 Pulse Torpedo (FP/F/FS)
or
4 Class 2 Beam Batteries (2xAP/FP/F, 2xF/FS/AS)
1 Long Range Pulse Torpedo (F)
The standard P-torp is a bit more versatile, and the LRPT is a bit more
"specialized"
The same (Torp vs. LRPT) question applies to the Barak Bttlecruiser
and Ben Gurion SDN
All thoughts appreciated.

are urges every man feels at least once a day. How could you set
yourself up as the most powerful institution on earth? You first find
out what every man feels at least once a day, establish that as a sin,
and set yourself up as the only institution capable of pardoning that
sin." -- Anton LaVey
