ship?      Generally, there are only general use tenders in existance
today (though in world war two before the advent of nuke boats there
were specialized sub tenders). Most navies are moving towards the use of
a general tender (an AOR?) that supplies everything from food to
munitions and fuel. While this forces one to use more tenders, at the
same time you aren't screwed if you lose your only munitions tender
<VBG>   Subs used to have speciallized tenders because they needed
radically different support elements compared to a fleet cruiser or DD
(different drive plants and munition requirements). Obviously, an AOR
tasked to support a carrier group would have a larger amount of fighter
munitions and fuel than one tasked to a BB battlegroup, but the actual
AOR design would not change.   Logically the same would continue in
space. My own FT navy has a class of light tenders that are designed to
resupply destroyer squadrons. The Nordmarks are small and quick but are
excellent for raiding operations. I suppose I've now got a heavier fleet
tender, but I haven't made up the specs for them <G>
