The New Scientist has an interesting article on a novel method of
producing nuclear explosions with small amounts of materials:

One gram of such explosive could produce explosions equivalent to
several Kilos of TNT.

In practice, it seems awfully expensive and most of the nuclei must be
triggered simultaneously - extremely difficult to achieve in practice.

Still, gives you a new PSB for ultra-powerful SF handweapons.
