Fighters and EMP Bombs

Subject: Fighters and EMP Bombs
1. EMP Bombs/Arty: Not bad. But I'd say a
LINE infantry unit could be affected (just
needing a higher total?). They have lots of
electronics and could be like the NSL or NI
partially-powered hardshell. Also, a significant
enough EMP could cause some rather sick
people, no? And you know I like the idea of the
EMP Limpet mine or the EMP Claymore.
2. Fighters: This much I will say - Most of what
has been discussed as problematic has already
appeared (perhaps all of it) in playtest list
ruminations (this applies to the large/small ship
issue and other things too). The solutions (one
hopes) should address the concerns raised
while addressing a few others that most people,
as normal players, aren't directly concerned
with (things like not wanting to reprint all the
SSDs or change the rules such that this is
required and keeping the game reasonably
simple). Of course, the obvious things like the
uselessness of small groups of fighters and the
dominance of large ones (relative to the
defence... before Stiltman gets his axe out
*grin*) and the overly attractive nature of soap
bubbles are major targets. And if, in cleaning
these things up, FB designs appear more
optimal than they do today, that's all to the
good. :)
>From what I've seen, and I'm constantly being
educated (I think I'm there to contribute more
on the SG/DS side.... OO and Alan are constantly
educating me on the FT side), I suspect that the
final product will be worth the patience. The nice
thing about having the people who worked on
the original point system working on the
revisions is a vast depth of history and
accumulated experience. And of course, we all
troll the main list for grist for the mill too. :)
