Actually, a friend and I at one time used GW epic minis to build and
play
40K battles!  The table for playing on is like 1'x1' roughly and the
terrain
was easy to make!

I don't see why you couldn't game SG with 6 mm single figures. Use
rather
large bases with a figure in the middle. As you only need a platoon or
so,
cost is not really an issue.
