Depends if they are armed, I guess. However, I can also guess that they 
aren't cheap bits of kit, so they are unlikely to want to hang around
and 
be shot at by the other sides tanks and PBI unless absolutely necessary.

Shoot at them? Depends on the game you want to play.

Read the opening chapter of Starship Troopers. Despite the power landing

and such like, he still ends up in the wrong place.

I would say yes, though it's an option not necessarily open to all
troops.

Interesting ideas. I like the idea of ultralight insertion. In DSII,
they 
could be size one, no armour, one pilot, one passenger, no weapons...
Any 
other thoughts?
