YEPPERS. BEEN THERE, DONE THAT A BUNCH OF TIMES. . . .
and it can be a lot of fun.
for instance. . . .
oil drilling operation in the middle of a vast grassy plain. there is
an electrified chain link fence around the drilling site, employee
housing, offices, labs, and rec facilities with perimeter lighting and
security systems.
there is a 50 man security detachment from STELLAR PETROCHMICALS
SECURITY DIVISION, armed with small arms, integral grenade launchers,
squad automatic weaponry, and crew served support weaponry ( 3 mortar
tubes, 3 rocket launchers, and 3 PIGs).
the security detachment is protecting 100 or so STELLAR PETROCHEMICALS
workers and scientists.
there is at least one shuttlecraft on the shuttlepad (outside the
driling site in a compound of its own). it is a tanker, with limited
passenger accomodation (say 24 max), and requires a crew of 3. the
shuttle IS NOT READY FOR LIFT OFF!
the storage tank farm is in another seperate fenced in area.
no aircraft are assigned here but a dozen or so vehicles of different
types.
the STELLAR PETROCHEMICALS operation is approached by a delegation of
low tech native warriors riding (insert animal of choice here) who
demand the starmen pay them tribute for the use of the land, or else!
they are rudely shown the door after being roughed up by company storm
troopers.
time passes. . . .
and then one fine day the STELLAR PETROCHEMICALS folks find themselves
being attacked by a vast herd of huge lumbering wotzits, driven by the
mounted native warriors!
modern technology and firepower versus brainless brutes in an endless
stampede!
and when the fencing is down, soldier isolated in defensive sitions or
tramped or hiding, a seemingly endless wave of mounted barbarians storm
the mining site!
animal and barbarian casualties are heavy, but guess who lost 100% of
its employees, equipment and etc?
STELLAR PETROCHEMICALS!
got the idea from an ancient HARRY HARRISON sci-fi novel about another
type of deathworld.
used scythians, huns, mongols, any horse barbarian i could lay my hands
on along with about 100 $0.10 plastic cows from M.E.MOSES and the
dollar store.
LOL recycled lots of both before the off-worlders were all dead!
the STELLAR PETROCHEMICAL civilians were assorted maker civvies but
mostly RP SHADOWRUNNERs, and the company soldiers were IG from the 40K
universe.
played on a ping-pong sized table in DFW area several years ago.
