LETHAL pneumatic  military weapons (and civilian hunting arms) have been
around since, oh, the mid 1700s, at least.

modern pneumatic powered  weapons with lesser  rates of fire, might
find  use on colonial worlds. 

ditto for  civilian  weapons using   paintball style  pneumatic
systems.

i would  suspect rounds  would be slugs, flechettes,  drugged darts,
lead or  steel	balls , etc. possibly acid  filled or HE filled as extra
nasty antipersonnel rounds.

modern	(SG II) body armor should  be able to defeat all but  acid or
HEAP rounds.
