Well, there's those Templars.

And one of these days I'm going to do a writeup for
the Hospitallars.

On the other hand, if the Vatican started running
military forces in large numbers (those Templars are
fairly ecumenical, excepting Orthodox) I can think of
about 2 dozen powers who'd want to start shooting them
out of the sky.
