Hopefully no one is shooting at you, it is more a psychological than
comfort thing.
It is very human to wish to leave the bigger target for the safety of a
well placed ditch 
at times, I think that factors into it. Also Scientists are a driven
lot, who frequently
forget to do such mundane things as eating and sleeping when they are on
to something lol.
