1/144th scale.

It's technically underscale for 15mm stuff, but for aerospace/VTOL stuff
that's less important, esp. for the gunships that never land. And
there's
a fairly good range of 1/144 kits out there.

1/100 would be near-perfect, but there's practically nothing made in
that
scale - I've only ever seen a very, very small range.

1/72 is big, but for a large transport or dropship a 1/72 model might be
a
starting point.

1/87 (HO model railroad scale, also called OO in the UK) is smaller than
1/72 - if you can find stuff it'll work, but air vehicles aren't the
point
of HO models...
