Subject: Mini Campaign Question to the "List

[snip]

1. An initial insertion of troops - Naval forces fight to get through an
opposing defending force to land troops for a recon of a proposed LZ.

[Bri] Small engagement. Primary mission would be to
knock out the planetary anti-space assets (a couple
of defense satellites) and several wings of fighters.
The Red (attacking force) should also have to deal
with some system defense cruisers and try to keep
couriers from escaping. Red should have 4 Cruisers,
6 Destroyers (should be fast to catch couriers), and
4 Cruiser-Sized dropship carriers (must get in orbit
to drop dropships). Blue force (defense) should get
3 defense cruisers (non-FTL), 6 Couriers (MD6), 2
orbital defense satilites (1 Class-3 in each, 4 hull),
and 1-2 fighter groups. Winning this will provide
+/-10% to Red force in phase 2.

2. The previously mentioned recon (ground combat, mostlty light forces)
with
the emphasis on troop survival and having enough forces remaining to get
the
word out.

[Bri] I agree with brendan. If you wanted to make it
more of a fight, you could make it a raid on a
commercial space port. Red Power Armor would attempt
to fight off police and spaceport security to take
over the control tower. This is a timed scenario.
It must be accomplished in X number of turns or the
main landing force will have to use an alternate
site (probably better defended, or less accomidating).

3. The main landing force arrives and needs to get to the planet - much
larger scale naval combat. The primary concerns being the transports and
then having enough forces left to either contest control of near space
or to
deny same.

[Bri] Pretty much a straight up fight. Blue force has
sent reinforcements to try to hold the system. If Blue
won phase 2, then the planet also has 3 ER Salvo
Missile Launcher with 4 salvos each; if Red won phase
2, it only has 2 launchers.
Another option would be to have the Red force have its
main dropship carriers near orbit. The Blue force would
try to destroy as many of these as possible. The Blue
force would be an advance quick reaction force with the
main fleet expected sometime later. Red has landed most
of its forces, but still has 1-2 trasports to unload.
Blue must destroy these transports.
Results of this give Red force +/-10% of forces for
phase 4.

4. The landing and the fight to control the LZ and clear surrounding
area.

[Bri]
This could be a real bummer if the Blue force gets some
good shots at the landing craft. Hmmm. Tried to land
20 transports, but 16 were shot down... I think that
phase 2 would be better for trying to secure a landing
zone. Phase 4 should be over some other valuable asset
or as a strike by Blue to retake the LZ. Both Blue and
Red have major space assets comming, but will likely
not engage if the other has secured the planet.

Overall I agree with Brendan.
