Drop the die type for every thresh hold? If you are already at D4, 
then go up a die type on the sensor players die?

Weasel boats and dummy bogeys. A cluster of frigates and bogeys 
coming in on one side a system to spoof the system defenders to the 
other side while the real task force comes in to pulverize the ship 
yard and staging areas....
