According to the US Census (and they got it right) Hispanic is an ethnic
designation that includes "white" Europeans (like Spanish), Native
Americans (Amerindians), Blacks (Brazil is famous for having significant
numbers of all '3' races (and that number is debatable) in Brazilian
culture, and mixed bloods (such as Mexico's mestizo - which many
Mexicans
are - but I don't know what Portuguese/Brazilian word covers the
category
of mestizo...)

Since I count Hispanic/Anglo from my mother's side and Cherokee/Anglo
from my Father's side I can safely say that French (paternal side) and
Spanish (maternal side) are 'white'.  

Conquistador - Spanish explorer; Modern Mexican (majority, not all) are
Indian-Spanish descendants.
