In the past GZG rule books have been light on the background side,
leaving all that stuff for supplements.

Where would these UN ships come from? From inside or outside of the
siege lines?

And "plucky humans beat the alien invaders back at the last minute"
is a cliche. I'd rather see the Kra'Vak win.
The next stage of the GZG timeline could feature some portions of
humanity serving different alien masters whilst others maintain their
freedom.

Not to me. The big tubes running down the spine of some of the ships
have solid ends more often than they have barrel type openigs. Most
of the big guns on the UN ships seem to be mounted on the wing tips
rather spinally.
