While I am not in on the decision of when the convention is run, I
believe
that the answer comes down to seveal primary factors:
1) First and foremost, money. The GZGECC is, greatfully, placed in
off-season. This allows the participants to use thier gaming dollars
better
(buying from the vendors).
2) To avoid conflicting with holidays and vacations. The convention is
usually placed in a timeframe away from the major holidays and away from
the normal vacation times. I have a sporting intrest that ALWAYS plans
an
event for Mother's day. This keeps me from participating every year.
3) Off-Gaming-Convention-Schedule. Being placed where it is also helps
avoid conflict with other gaming events (Gen-Con, Origins, etc.). I
appreciate not having to make a choice about which one to attend based
on
schedule (I still have to make one based on cost; which is why GZGECC
wins
most of the time).
I for one appreciate all the work the organizers do to provide such an
excelent and unique gaming experience. Three Cheers!

Why do you northerners insist on having these things in the dead
of winter when I would have to come away from the warm Florida
sun and freeze my tuckus off? How about summer time when I
want to get away from the hot Florida sun and lightning-filled
daily thunderstorms (I hear one approaching now) ? :)
