As you might expect in a game based on the philosphy that it's the 
man not the gun which is important. 

The Hammer's Slammers books could be set at almost any period in 
history.

At which point they become fantasy rather than SF. ;-)

I would say that it really depends on what sort of SF you want to 
simulate. Do you need Psi powers? Cyborgs? Nanotech? Teleport? Time 
Travel?
