Actually these are by William H.Keith and Andrew Keith (of Battletech
novels fame, or should that be infamy....). But yes, all 3 books in the
series are fun and good  ideas references.
There are also two "future Foreign Legion" novels with a cyborg twist,
by
William C. Dietz - Legion of the Damned and The Final Battle.

Also try: several books by Rick Shelley, including Jump Pay, Side Show,
Until Relieved, The Buchanan Campaign, The Fires of Coventry (mostly
ground
combat with a bit of ship action).
Read M. John Harrison's superlative The Centauri Device - your FT
battles
will never be the same again.... ;)
Oh, and Roland Green's Starcruiser Shenandoah series, plus Peace
Company,
and A Small Colonial War by the same author.
