Jeff,
While I'd be loath to try hackin' and drillin' on figs for it, the idea
of
painting 'carbon scoring; looks like this fella has seen some action...'
is
very appealing. And, I've seen the kind of pitting that did cry out to
be
made into battle damage. One could even leave a curled tab of flash on,
and
paint a black 'hole' where it was blown/torn out of. However, I'm lucky
if
I get a plain coat with simple detailing on. So far, even drybrushing
and
washing daunt me.

Phil,
May I ask what you are substituting for the lancer-frigate and other
ships
not officially in the Galoob line? I'd have thought the blastboat was
more
DSII scale, but we use what's available. I have a large number of SW
packs,
as well as B5 and the ST ones I've already mentioned, waiting for
battle,
but the SW fleets are about the thinnest, currently.

By all means, keep up the good work! More ship/fleet stats, the better!

I have a couple of minis that were mis-cast; lots of pitting and/or
misshapen or missing bits...I've been thinking of painting them with
battle
damage instead of melting them down.
