You asked for it, so here goes something on the fly. :)
Full Thrust Formula One
*********************
Standard FT ships are used when racing (including weaponry). The
weapons don't actually cause damage, but act as ECM, chaff, dirty tricks
etc. Either use a race track or set up an obstacle course (anyone every
see the Dr Who episode "Enlightenment"? Sailing ships racing around
planets) using planets/nebula/debris clouds etc.
Movement:
Each ship rolls a d6+thrust. This is the amount of movement available
for that turn (don't add to last turn's velocity). Standard turn
restrictions are in place, but each ship uses available thrust for turn
restrictions. (Potentially, a thrust 2 ship can do a 4 pt turn if they
roll a 6).
Combat:
Normal firecombat procedures apply, but if possible, ships must allocate
their target during the orders phase (to give some uncertainty), but no
actual damage is recorded (unless you're feeling REALLY nasty). Every
point of damage reduces a ships available thrust next turn by that
amount of damage (ie: 6 pts of damage gives a -6 to the thrust roll).
This should still favour fast escorts, but gives the battlewagons a
chance.
Happy racing.

Mary had a little LAM,
It's thrusters all aglow;
And everywhere that Mary went,
The 'Mechs were sure to blow.
