Here are some good designs for chasing after missile boats:

Mongoose class Strikeboat

Standard Scout
Jon Tuffley

Especially the Standard scout at 28 points, Mongooose at 29 and the
Ulan-Ude Gunboat at 43. They are not much more expensive than the cost
of the smallest* Missile Boat (below). If the Missile Boats are detected
soon enough, they can intercept the missile boats before launch. The
Ulan-Ude has the longest range for the least cost. The Columbus has some
added protection and multi-role capabiltiy at a higher cost.
* Assumes that odd ton ships round up for damage and down for system
mass.

Blowgun class Missile Boat
Brian Bell, Designer
Mass: 4
Type: Escort
Clas: Scout
Move: 8
FTL: Std
Tech: Human
Hull: Military
Strm: None
Prot: None
Cost: 26
Damg: 2

Syst:
