A local paper here just ran the best review I've seen yet of "ID4"
(which I
actually enjoyed). There aren't any major spoilers here, but just to be
safe...

"The director of _Independance Day_ is from the movie _Stargate_. The
aliens
are from _Aliens_. Their spaceships are from _V_. The big macho hero is
from
_Fresh Prince of Bel Air_. The brainy foil is from _Earth Girls Are
Easy_.
The enormous special effects are from Irwin Allen, with a budget from
God.
The flight scenes are from _Top Gun_. The invasion-of-Earth plot is from
the
1950s. The
everyone's-using-this-time-of-crisis-to-save-their-failing-marriage
subplot
is from the 1970s. The thrilling climax in which Randy Quaid blows the
aliens
to kingdom come is from the 1980s, as is Quaid. The plot device of
fighting
the aliens with stuff the Army trash-picked from the Roswell UFO crash
site
is from our contemporary psuedo-scientific neurosis. In other words,
you've
seen this movie before, although it may have been about something wildly
different. Most of it wasn't any good the first time."
