Space elevators aren't space ships though. They're very big and limited
in
possible locations, so only one or a handful per planet. I'd prefer for
game design purposes something that's about as affordable as a current
day
Delta/Soyuz/Ariane rocket.

(And yes I'm aware that rockets also benefit from being launched near
the
equator - but as Baikonur demonstrates, it's not essential.)
