isn't all that expensive. They are more expensive than Old Glory or
Peter Pig, but not by too much. They also do not sell in huge bulk lots
like
Old Glory. But instead of starting another "who is better" argument,
I'll
point out a few nice things about Battlefront/FOW.
1) Lots of people play it. Always a plus.
2) The figures are still a great value. Not talking price along
here,
but value. For $40-45 you can get 5 medium tanks. Not bad. And only
about a
buck a tank more than Old Glory (non-sale price).
3) The hobby is well-supported by the company - hobby articles,
unofficial lists, historical articles, fun/funny projects,
panting/modeling
tips, tournaments, leagues, etc.
4) You do NOT have to use Battlefront figures or play in 15mm if
your
group would rather play in another scale.
Just an opinion/observation that has nothing to do with GZG, but I am at
that point in my gaming "career" where I feel obligated to share what I
have
learned.
Now, how about that great Kra'Vak conspiracy cooked up by the UN?

FoW is tempting, the rulebook is beautiful and the miniatures are very

but 15mm is a new scale to me, I would be starting from scratch and the
miniatures do seem very expensive compared with, say, Peter Pig or GZG.
I
would be tempted to use the rules with my existing 20mm Great Patriotic
War
forces though. One of my local model shops (Netmerchants) talked about
getting it in but beyond a sample copy and a few miniatures nothing
happened, had they done so I would probably have been hooked and reeled
in.
I didn't find the prices of FoW minis to be that much more than GZG figs
-
in fact, for the longest time, they were a bit cheaper (esp given how
the
dollar has been going compared to the pound :-/ ; heck, they may still
be
:-/ ).
Again, you're not limited to BF minis. I've got a few Command Decision
vehicles (and a couple other manufacturers) mixed in with my forces.
As far as scale, do it in a different scale. :-) I'm going to start
exploring 6mm in the near(ish) future.
The latest set of rules I have is the few fantasy system from Two-Hour
Wargames, I have just printed out a copy and look forward to reading it
tonight. A friend is banging on about Warhammer but we just cannot
summon up
any interest in any flavour of it so it looks as if this set might
scratch
that fantasy itch for us and best of all whatever miniatures we have
will be
peachy with it. We must get back to SF though, now everyone can have
their
own rulebook and we must have enough ships between us to make it work.
I feel a bit like Mr. Morden at the moment asking our group "What do you
want?" but no one has any useful answers leaving me with a slew of half
finished projects (what would the proper collective noun for that be)
and no
idea what to work on. I am just puddling, finishing up several just to
tidy
the place up. SF skirmish looks like the best bet so I should maybe run
off
some copies of Stargrunt or actually read 5150!
<grin>
Well, if they can't make up their minds, you might need to make an
executive
decision. ;-)
