One thing to remember is that there is a time difference between the
when the first series occurred and when this series picks up. The
Galactica is from the vintage of earlier time frame when the first Cylon
war occurred. Note all of the archaic communication devices that they
are forced to use. Remember that the Galactica was in the process of
going through its decommissioning ceremony when the new series. The
Cylons aren't the old tin cans that they were in the first Cylon war.
They have evolved and their technology has evolved and become deadlier.
It is no surprise that the Galactica would seem weak.

Now as far as storyline goes, we'll just have to wait and see how weak
the series is.

My take is that the Galactica seems... weak. In the original series
(iirc), a single battelstar could take on 1 or 2 cylon base stars and
hold
it's own, or win. In the new series, it seems they're either badly
outnumbered, or badly outclassed (my gut reaction was the latter), and
they run and run and run some more, and don't ever really seem to engage

or fight their way free.
