FT-Cheap minis

Subject: FT-Cheap minis

The recent thread about someone with the lack of disposable income (like
all
of us?) after some minis for FT gave me a idea. Why don`t we have a
ongoing
thread about cheap minis (I think we are all after cheep minis for our
forces, if it be FT, SG or DS). With the global coverage of this group,
I
think we should be able to find something going cheap for everyone?

To start it off, I will post about sone minis I picked up about a month
ago.
These were some chep ST BOPs (3 of them), made from plastic, mounted on
a
cheap and nasty black soft plastic stand. Made by a company called
applause
in china. Picked them up in the local game/comic store for about 1.50
each.
After giving them a green ink coating (3 layers to tone down the nasty
bright plastic), then picking out the guns/details in silver and torpedo

launchers/engines in red, the minis were then mounted on a normal hex
stand
with superglue (the original stand having been cut/ripped off), I had
for
about 4 hour work and 4.50 3 BOPs for my fleets (the bits/paints/stands
used
were in my parts bin).

I have also used those cheep snap together kits from SW and ST (revel, I

think?), with minimum paint and a proper stand, these are a cheap and
useful
way to get more minis. I have also used keyrings (yes, keyrings). When
B5
was aired, a company produced some spaceship keyrings for B5, one of
them
being a narn freighter. All that was needed was to cut off the plastic
loop
that the keychain was attached to it with, and wash/detail painting to
tone
it down, and mounting on a hex stand, and you have another cheap and
quick
mini.

So I will ask for everybody to keep their eyes open for things like
these
going cheap, and share them with everyone else on the list (even if we
don`t
have the same access, the ideas are allways welcome).
