IIRC, K3 is the optimum for avg damage per points cost.  You don't get
double damage as often but you get more chances to hit for a given mass
of
weapons, and that makes up for it.  However, a K5 hit as a certain
psychological impact.  "A hit.	Double damage as usual, that's ten hull.
