 Thanks Brendan and all the others who replied. Seems like I
 should have bought "More Thrust" for the squadron movement
 rules which solve the problem.

 As well as the age of sail, I remember in at least one episode
 of "Blakes 7" the Federation cruisers attacked in a very tight
 line ahead formation. Practical or not, I want to try :-)
