Subject: [SG] IF TO
This company is a typical Islamic Federation infantry unit.
Infantry training and equipment are usually not up to the standards of
first-line units of the major powers. The IF compensates for this with
increased manpower--up to 50% more than the equivalent NAC unit--and
overconfident opponents often find themselves roughly handled by
well-led Islamic infantry. IF doctrine for infantry emphasizes the
"offensive defense"--seizing a position and digging in. IF infantry
commanders (other than fedayeen and assault pioneers) prefer to
disrupt and destroy enemy units by squad and artillery fires instead
of close assault. Maneuver warfare is largely the province of armor
units.
IF regular infantry is issued with camouflage fatigues suitable for
the local vegetation and climate, the most widely used being the
"Leopard" pattern of khaki with black-rimmed tan spots. Their
oversized helmets contain sensor gear (d6) and a pull-down hood which
seals at the collar. The hood is proof against NBC contamination but
is more commonly used to protect against dust, sand, and insects. IF
torso clamshells (armor d6) consists of ceramic on a woven aramid
substrate; they are sometimes painted, but often left in the original
honey-brown.
Gaming the IF: the average Islamic Fed regular unit is about 40%
Green, 50% Blue, 10% Orange quality, and normal Leadership
distribution. Most IF units suffer a +1 DRM to the morale check when
attempting to enter Close Combat, either as attacker or defender--this
penalty does not apply to fedayeen, assault pioneers, or powered armor
troops.
