Interesting. I have a few units with a single spotter included, it does
keep
an opponent on edge. It also tends to draw fire down on the unit,
though, so
keep that in mind.
With most of my units I have gone with making the PA organic to the
infantry
platoons, similar to some SG structures:

2 Elements GMS/L
3 line
1 APSW
2 PA

This puts some spine in them for close assaults without removing their
rifle
team nature.

Bunching is always bad.

I have not run the odds of this, but I think it depends a lot on
concentration of fire, the scenario, and unit confidence/quality.

We have had mixed results. APSW on the armor can really ruin an infantry
unit's day. We have had several ravaged when they stood against the
armor.
Then again, we had an infamous stand by militia against an armored unit
that
took out 3 of 4 in a close assault from a town edge (course most of the
infantry bought it too, but it stopped the advance). We have also had
armor
break off due to IAVRs closing on multiple sides.
