Slightly OT: Cool Stuff in Space, was Asteroid etc.belts

I recently mentioned the Republic of Cascadia.	The game world in which
it 
exists is one of my own making, and I am recruiting my friends/gaming 
associates to play in it.  Essentially, it's a home-brewed RPG where the

PC's and NPC's can range up to being the identity of an entire nation. 
It's 
an interesting place, and I plan on tossing some fun conundrums my
players' 
way.  One of the ideas I'm toying with is having one of them discover a 
Dyson's Sphere.  I'm also debating whether it will still be inhabited by

it's builders, and why or why not....  Any suggestions?
