Sort of, at a demonstration game you field questions from the 'public' 
about what exactly you are doing (and why). Basically you're putting the

game and your miniatures (and painting skills) on show. The benefits
are; 
some fun for you and your friends (if it's not fun why are you doing
it?) 
and you get a chance to meet new people (possible opponents, who see
your 
demo game and are interested).
