Posting to the list serves a couple of purposes:
a) If it's an idea you're fascinated by and are going to work up for
your
own use--such as the NRE or the Confederates--then then rest of us can
give
you feedback and ideas.  I've contributed to the NRE even though I
wouldn't
use it in my universe;
b) Many people get inspirations in the midst of telling their story to
someone else.  Posting to the list is more interactive (and requires
less
discipline) than writing fiction;
c) No matter how whacko your concept is, it may spark ideas for the rest
of
us.  Of course, the idea may be "he's fatally caffeine-deficient"!
