Or use a gravitic acceleration, for which a massive substance like a 
DU round would be perfect. Who says these are EM railguns? Gravitic 
acceleration if you have the tech is potentially very powerful and 
may represent less risk of eddies or other effects in the acclerated 
media. (Mind you, it should be compact or it will compress under 
exterted pressures - but that might even make is a better 
penetrator!). 

Maybe this is the difference between an MDC (low tech railgun) and a 
KV railgun - maybe they use grav and get more bang out of their 
accelerators.
