That's actually true. About one and a half hours before there is any
noticeable change in the star that's going supernova, there is a
neutrino burst that's lethal out to something like the orbit of Pluto.
So all those episodes of Star Trek where Captain Whoever escapes from
being obliterated by a supernova by getting the warp engines online at
the last minute--wrong--they were dead over an hour ago and the
neutrinos will just slip right through the shields. So much for
dramatic license--just enjoy the show.
Still that would be an interesting weapon. Might make a good FT
raid/defend scenario.
