I realized what the problem was. Personally, I think he should have
ended it with 4 seasons if he was backed into getting rid of the good
stuff too early. Then again, I also think that the X-Files should end
this season instead of continuing for 2 more seasons. I have memories
of the mediocre and generally awful sixth season and seventh season
(respectively) of Star Trek: The Next Generation.

That wasn't the one we saw. In Canada we're at least a couple of
episodes behind you. In fact, we've got one more episode and then
we're going to be on hiatus for most of April, with "The Gathering" as
the only thing to keep us going.
